odin

While the arctic foxes around him slowly turn white, Odin keeps the same color. That makes him insecure, and he wonders if he still belongs. The picture book ‘Odin’ by Marieke ten Berge tells the story of a young arctic fox who is different from his peers.

Marieke ten Berge loves the High North, and a sailing trip around Svalbard inspired her to create this stunning picture book.

Odin is a young arctic fox. As summer turns into fall, day and night become distinct again, and winter approaches, the arctic foxes change color, except for Odin. Since he does not turn white like the others, he wonders if he should head south instead, just like the birds. On his journey through the increasingly snowy landscape (never before has snow had so much color), Odin discovers that being different means he can be a beacon for others. Both literally and figuratively, Odin and the other animals in this special book find their own place in the beautiful world Marieke ten Berge created with her woodcuts. Step into this snowy world and follow Odin on his journey.
