kiwizou game mission savanne

With the Mission Savanne game from the French brand Kiwizou, you work together to free 12 animals from their cages before poachers discover you.

First, choose the difficulty. The board features 2 playing sides: rescue operation (yellow side) for beginners, and the risky mission (blue side) for advanced players.

Draw 12 random animal cards and place them cage-side up next to the game board. Put all 16 key tokens and 4 poacher tokens into the bag. Place 1 poacher token on space 5 of the game board. The remaining 3 form a stack on the yellow poacher space. That is the reserve.

The player who most recently saw a lion starts as the group leader. Play clockwise. Every turn brings a new group leader. Discussing is always allowed, though the group leader decides!

Draw a token from the bag. If it is a key token, choose to either free an animal with the same color cage as the key on the token, or free the animal shown on the token regardless of the cage color. Next, the player takes the card of the freed animal and flips it to the side showing the free animal. They place this card on the first open space on the game board. If there is no animal to free, nothing happens.

If it is a poacher token, place it on an empty poacher space along the edge of the board. Once 3 tokens lie here, the poachers have heard you and the game ends.

Extra game rules:

• If both the cage and animal match the key token, 1 poacher token on the board goes back to the reserve stack.
• What a racket! If the card of a freed animal borders another card of the same animal species vertically or horizontally, take a poacher token from the reserve stack and add it to the bag.
• Watch out when you get too close to the poachers' camp on space 5. When the card of a freed animal goes onto space 5 of the game board, that poacher token goes into the bag as well.

You win the game once all 12 animals are free.

For solo play, you take on the role of the whole team and act as the group leader every turn. Team up, stay quiet, and set the animals free.

To make the game more challenging, flip the game board to the blue side. Now certain animals are off-limits on specific spaces:

• space 3: On this space, you cannot free an elephant.
• space 6: On this space, you cannot free a lion.
• space 8: On this space, you cannot free a zebra.
• space 10: On this space, you cannot free a giraffe.
