djeco craft set cyanotype - by the moonlight

Using the power of the sun, children create poetic works of art with this 'Au clair de la lune' cyanotype craft set from the French brand Djeco. The scenes become the nighttime backgrounds for the illustrations of the four cut-out pictures. Curious to see how sunlight develops a picture? It is a creative activity based on photo development.

To make the special effect work, the paper features chemical elements that make it light-sensitive. Follow the patterns from the booklet or lay your own fun objects like leaves, flowers, or cutouts flat on the paper. Cover it with a transparent plate and place it in direct sunlight.

Here is where the magic begins! The parts of the paper exposed to sunlight turn blue, while the covered spots stay white. After 15-30 minutes, take it out of the sun. Remove the objects from the paper and rinse the sheet with cold water. Doing this stops the chemical reaction so the drawing stays visible.

Now let the paper dry thoroughly. Finish it off by adding the lovely cut-out picture frame, and your artwork is complete!
