Manage your energy wisely and ride with clever tactics in the Caballo board game from the French brand Djeco. Will your horse be the very first to cross the finish line?

Place the game board in the center. Shuffle all the energy tokens and stack them carrot-side up next to the board. Each player takes 2 tokens and places them in front of them. Pick a horse and its matching pawn, then set your pawn on the starting space.

On every turn, decide whether to trot (blue dice) or gallop (red dice). Roll both dice of your chosen color. One die shows the symbol to move to, while the other reveals the turn's effect.

The youngest player goes first, and play continues clockwise. Choose your dice color (blue = trot, red = gallop) and roll them both. Move your horse according to the movement die, and then apply the action on the effect die.

Blue dice
Movement die: move your horse to the next space showing a boot, ribbon, or helmet.
Effect die: earn 1, 2, or 3 energy tokens. Take them from the supply and place them in front of you, carrot-side up.

Red dice
Movement die: move your horse to the second space showing a boot, ribbon, or helmet.
Effect die:
1. Spend energy - hand in the required amount of energy. If you do not have enough, you stay put and keep your tokens.
2. Jump an obstacle - decide for yourself how much energy to bet (at least 1 token). Flip all the tokens you played. Spot one or more galloping horses, and your jump succeeds! If you only see sleeping horses, the jump fails and you move back to the nearest puddle space.
3. Blank side - no extra action needed, simply move your horse forward.

As soon as a player reaches the finish, the other players get to finish their turn. The player whose horse has gone the furthest wins the game. In case of a tie, victory goes to the player with the most energy tokens left. Saddle up for an exciting race to the finish!
