de heerlijkste 5 december in vijfhonderdvierenzeventig jaar

The picture book ‘De heerlijkste 5 december in vijfhonderdvierenzeventig jaar’ by Annie M.G. Schmidt tells the story of a Sinterklaas celebration that threatens to fall completely flat. Without a boat and without presents, it seems the party has to be called off. Or perhaps Sinterklaas and Piet will find a solution after all.

In the Bay of Biscay, Sinterklaas's boat gets caught in a storm and sinks. All the presents are lost, and the chocolate letters and marzipan end up at the bottom of the sea too.

Luckily, a small French fishing boat rescues Sinterklaas and Piet. Of course, it looks like the Sinterklaas celebration is off for this year. Read along and find out how Sinterklaas and Piet save the celebration after all!
