Playful Danish Design by MODU

Play takes center stage. That is the philosophy behind MODU, the Danish brand that has been developing modular construction toys since 2018 for children from 0 to about 6 years old.

Using large, lightweight building blocks, wheels, and sturdy connecting pegs, children build vehicles, balance courses, little chairs, or imaginative structures. Today a ride-on car, tomorrow a rocking horse, and the day after a custom obstacle course right through the living room. MODU toys adapt to every stage and every idea.

Because you can reassemble the system again and again, it opens up endless new combinations. Blocks click into place, wheels spin smoothly, and parts effortlessly switch functions. This sparks open-ended play where building, moving, and discovering naturally come together.

You'll recognize MODU construction toys by their modular nature, hence the name MODU, and their simple, understated look. The colors and minimalist shapes blend into any home. The brand itself calls this Playful Danish Design.

Playsets that grow along

MODU creates versatile building parts that stay interesting for a long time. You can easily expand and adapt the system, sparking fresh curiosity time and again.

A lot changes during a child's first years. From rolling to crawling. From standing to walking. MODU matches that development every step of the way. The modular toys keep challenging children because the possibilities are so varied. Motor skills, balance, coordination, and spatial awareness grow naturally through play. And just as important: their self-confidence grows too.

During tummy time, the play boards support the development of core and neck muscles. Once children start standing up, those very same parts transform into a baby walker or push toy. Later on, they can turn them into their own little seat, a train, or even a complete play kitchen. Children let their imagination run wild and dive right into all kinds of role-play.

And when children outgrow them, the playsets effortlessly get a second life with younger siblings or other kids. That ongoing cycle of imagining, building, and moving forms the heart of the brand.

From individual parts to building sets

MODU toys feature a simple design and are available as individual pieces or in complete sets.

For babies, there is a baby activity set where rattling pegs fascinate the little one and parents find inspiration in 12 playful activities from the guide. And preschoolers will have a blast with sets like the 33-piece Dreamer Set, which lets them create more than 25 different builds with a little help.

From walkers to complete climbing and balance courses, and from play kitchens to slides. Children know exactly what to do with their imagination here. These open-ended toys encourage them to play freely and adventurously.

Who is MODU for?

MODU toys for babies and young toddlers

Babies just a few months old already enjoy MODU's modular toys. The activity sets get parent and child moving together and let babies explore in a playful way.

With the little play boards, babies practice their neck and core muscles while an adult gently rocks the boards back and forth. The rattle pegs make soft sounds that stimulate hearing and catch curious eyes. This way, babies discover movement, sound, and new shapes through play.

When a baby grows into an adventurous young toddler, the toys grow right along. Together, the parts form a walker for those very first steps. Using the same modular blocks, adults can also build a rocking horse, giving the toy a fresh new way to play for the child.

MODU toys for active toddlers

Children aged 2, 3, and 4 are full of movement, ideas, and the urge to build. MODU's modular toys fit right in. With the sturdy blocks, pegs, and wheels, children help adults build vehicles, seats, or small play structures. Today a balance bike, tomorrow a wheelbarrow or an imaginative vehicle.

While building, pushing, and riding, toddlers practice their gross motor skills and balance. They climb, steer, and move their bodies with growing awareness. MODU toys grow along with a toddler's imagination. The simple shapes leave plenty of room to invent something new every time. That makes them not only active, but also creative toys that are open-ended in use. A few blocks quickly turn into a fire truck, a balance course, or an animal on wheels.

MODU toys for curious preschoolers

Children aged 5 and 6 are bursting with ideas and love building their own world. With MODU's modular construction toys, those ideas literally take shape. While building and moving, children develop their coordination, balance, and body control. They steer, push, and ride their creations, constantly discovering new ways to play with them. At the same time, building calls for logical thinking and spatial awareness. Which blocks fit together, and how does a vehicle stay sturdy?

MODU toys are a great match for the curiosity of 5- and 6-year-olds. The parts give them room to experiment on their own and test out their ideas. This way, the toys grow along with their creativity and love of building.

Responsibly designed

MODU is B Corp certified and meets environmental standards. The brand designs from a thoughtful vision that brings materials, production, and lifespan together. The building blocks consist of 100% recyclable EPP foam. This material is lightweight, strong, and wear-resistant. The connecting pegs feature food-safe and recyclable ABS.

Parts click together without glue or screws. That means you can reuse the pieces again and again whenever a child wants to build something new. The Ocean Mint line also contains 15% recycled marine material, such as old fishing nets and ropes.

MODU produces in Denmark and France and sources materials locally. The packaging matches this vision too, using FSC-certified cardboard and paper.

How do I clean MODU parts?

After playtime, you can clean MODU toys in no time. Simply rinse the blocks under the tap, or even bring them along into the bath. For a thorough clean, you can also pop the parts right into the dishwasher.
